Riley Peterson '23 Recruiting Profile

I love playing basketball and enjoy my teammates.  I have had personal trainers and some good coaches along the way that have helped me get better over the years. I started in AAU basketball when I was in the 5th grade and the coach told the team on the first day that if you cannot use your left hand you will not play - the next few months I dribbled and shot with only my left hand. I brushed my teeth and ate with my left hand and was driven to be the best on my team with their off hand. When I am challenged to work on something I do it! I find drills for myself to work on or I speak with my personal trainers and have them help me develop a program that will make me better. This year (Junior year) I focused on my defense and being able to cut off penetration as my team had scorers and I found myself playing point guard most of the time which was a new role for me as I have always been a shooting guard. My ball handling improved and my vision on the court improved and led the team is assists.  My long arms allowed me to be a much improved defender as now I was using my feet along with my long arm span. As I improved my overall game, I eventually became the go to on the offensive side of the ball and in AAU and high school JV I have led my team in scoring and hit many game winning shots when the pressure was on. I am a 90% plus free throw shooter and a good shooter on the move or coming off a screen in a game. I am highly motivated to become the best player I can be and love being a leader on the floor and working hard with my teammates.
