Personal Statement

The foundation of my life is based on faith, family, academics and athletics.  I was born and raised in a house where academic excellence is expected.  In addition I was encouraged to pursue extracurricular activities, be a part of the family unit and act in a faith-based manner.  I believe my background and goals will allow me to attend a college where I can make a solid contribution in both the classroom and on the golf team. My academic credentials noted in my profile include successfully completing advanced and accelerated courses in a top college preparatory charter school.  This is preparing me to achieve my goal in college, which is to get an undergraduate and graduate degree in business statistics or quantitative analysis.

I have played multiple sports growing up.  All of these have helped my golf game which is now my sole athletic focus. For example in baseball I developed good hand-eye coordination.  I also learned the importance of gripping the baseball with my fingers which I applied to gripping the golf club. In basketball and football I learned the importance of an athletic set up in order to be able to move laterally.  I applied this knowledge to the golf set up position which helps me move laterally back and through the ball.

I have been able to maintain a top GPA while playing high school golf at a high level.  I have qualified for the Az. D-III State Tournament as an individual the past three years, finishing 51st, 21st and 11th respectively out of 90 players each year. I also finished the 2016 D-III regular season ranked 6th out of 330 golfers from 45 schools. In addition to competing on the high school team I have played in many JGAA events in 2015 and 2016 which are held in Phoenix, Az. That involves a 2.5 hour drive one way from my home to the tournaments.  All of this demonstrates discipline, maturity, excellent time management skills and an ongoing commitment to improve myself.  Because of this I believe I can contribute both academically and athletically to your school.

I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your consideration.
