My name is Owen Minnick. I’m beginning to explore my college options and wanted to introduce myself as well as give you some details of my athletic and academic background. I’m a 2025 student-athlete playing golf for Bellmont High School in Decatur, IN. I’m very focused on academics and currently maintain a 3.8 GPA. I have been a varsity golf team starter my first two seasons on a varsity team that won Sectional. My freshman year I was All-Conference Honorable Mention, Bi-County Tournament Champion, and had an a scoring average of 79. As a sophomore, I was All-Conference 2nd Team, finished 6th place in a very competitive conference, and had a scoring average of 76. I really enjoy playing golf and it’s been a huge part of my life. I have been playing competitive golf since I was 8 or 9 years old and was Tour Champion multiples times in the Fort Wayne, IN. Junior Golf League. I have received professional instruction for the past several years at Apex Golf Lab from KB Blanchard and golf pro Quinn Griffing. I’m also a member at the Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, IN. and receive additional instruction from the club pro Tim Frazier. I practice at these facilities or at our home simulator almost everyday. All these facilities use Trackman simulators and I’m very knowledgeable about interpreting the swing data and making the necessary adjustments. I’ve also tried to improve my game off the course by lifting and speed training before school and can see the effects dramatically improving my game. I have continued to play competitive golf and have entered into several Golfweek Junior Tour Tournaments and IGA Tournaments. I’ve scored in the mid 70’s at several of these tournaments including Purdue (Kampen), Ball State (The Player’s Club), and Peru (Rock Hollow) in which I made the cut and advanced to the second round at the Boys PGA Junior Tournament.
I’m really passionate about the game of golf and hope to have the opportunity to play it at the collegiate level. I believe my positive disposition and being a supportive teammate will be a valuable asset to any team. I can also promise I will work hard to continually improve my golf game and excel in the classroom.
