Personal Statement

Change is typically hard, but for me it was necessary.  My freshman year, I did not live up to anyone’s academic expectations, and I learned the hard way that digging out of an academic hole is not easy.  Academically I was doing “ok,” but nowhere near to what coaches would expect nor what I was capable of achieving.  My golf game was fine.  I was winning local tournaments in Massachusetts, voted my high school team’s MVP, and fairly consistently playing “good golf”--but I knew that I wanted and needed more of a challenge to be considered a competitive college golfer.  I knew that my efforts and performance both in the classroom and on the fairways were not going to get me where I knew I could and want to be.

With the support of my parents and my own sheer will and determination, I was accepted to Saddlebrook Preparatory School in Florida as a member of the Class of 2026.  I was given a second chance to improve my academics, to strengthen all aspects of my golf game, and to be independent--I can quote my parents, "You have one shot at Saddlebrook!  This is your only do over in life."  I am proud of myself for my Honor Roll-level grades for my first term away from home.

My golf game has improved a lot since arriving at Saddlebrook thanks to great coaching, encouragement, and a new and improved outlook.  I am confident that having the ability to play golf year round will continue to make a difference.  My home state of Massachusetts isn’t very conducive to year-round play although I tried as hard as I could always taking advantage of open, outdoor practice bays with snow falling and temps near the single digits. No one can say that I am not passionate about the sport!  Saddlebrook offers a very structured golf program which includes course management, physical conditioning, mental coaching, and overall player development.  With 100% effort, and three years to work hard, I am excited to see what I can achieve.

When it is time to choose a college, I want to have options and to be able to pick a program where I can excel academically and play for a coach who is going to help me grow and improve.  My ultimate goal is to take my golf talents as far as they can through college and beyond.  I would like to major in Sport Management and ultimately pursue a career in the golf industry.  For years I have heard my Grandfather say "Find a job you enjoy doing and you'll never work a day in your life."

I am confident that all who have coached me would say that I listen to instruction and willingly accept criticism, that I always put in 100% effort, that golf is my passion, and that I am a good teammate with the potential to be a leader.  I hope that I will be given the chance to wear a college team’s polo and play for a coach who loves the game and coaching aspiring golfers.  I am committed. I am coachable.  I am ready to achieve.  Please give me the opportunity to learn more about you and your team.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
