Hello, I am Trevor Drew from Tyngsborough Massachusetts in the 2023 Class. I am 16 years old and a dream of mine has always been to play a sport at a high collegiate level in College ever since I was little. I play golf, baseball, and basketball. I played AAU baseball and basketball until I fell in love with the game of golf. I didn’t pick up a golf club until 2 years ago (8th grade spring). I got addicted to the satisfaction of getting better and loved the game. I started as a 18 handicap and progressed to a 5 by the end of that summer (in 4 months) simply just by practicing and playing. I realized I couldn’t get any better without the help of a private coach. I got a private coach in March of 2020 and was a +2 handicap by the summer going into sophomore year. I played in a few tournaments but nothing crazy. I worked my tail of over the winter and now I am almost a +3. This is my first summer (going into junior year) playing with a full tournament schedule and getting used to tournament play. My tournament scoring average improved almost 10 strokes in 1 year. I also have 18 total casual rounds in the 60’s (a low of 66, a few 67’s, and several 68’s and 69’s). It hasn’t all clicked in a tournament yet but I can feel it coming soon.
I think some things that may separate me from others is my work ethic, dedication, and character. I am a strong vocal leader and very coachable. There are so many talented and skilled golfers in the world but the ones that separate themselves from others is their mentality. I focus on controlling the things I can control. My emotions on the golf course, how I respond when things aren’t going my way, how I treat my partners when playing bad, etc. I continue to respect my surroundings and keep battling. I go to the range in the winter hitting out of a bay in frigid temperatures 4-5 days a week. In the summers, I practice and play from morning to night whether it’s raining or sunny. When I’m home, I take videos while hitting into a net. I may not be able to control many things, but the one thing I can control is how hard I work. I made a promise to myself that no one will ever outwork me.
