Personal Statement

Hello, I am Trevor Drew from Tyngsborough Massachusetts in the 2023 Class. I am 16 years old and a dream of mine has always been to play a sport at a high collegiate level in College ever since I was little. I play golf, baseball, and basketball. I played AAU baseball and basketball until I fell in love with the game of golf. I didn’t pick up a golf club until 2 years ago (8th grade spring). I got addicted to the satisfaction of getting better and loved the game. I started as a 18 handicap and progressed to a 5 by the end of that summer (in 4 months) simply just by practicing and playing. I realized I couldn’t get any better without the help of a private coach. I got a private coach in March of 2020 and was a +2 handicap by the summer going into sophomore year. I played in a few tournaments but nothing crazy. I worked my tail of over the winter and now I am almost a +3. This is my first summer (going into junior year) playing with a full tournament schedule and getting used to tournament play. My tournament scoring average improved almost 10 strokes in 1 year. I also have 18 total casual rounds in the 60’s (a low of 66, a few 67’s, and several 68’s and 69’s). It hasn’t all clicked in a tournament yet but I can feel it coming soon.

I think some things that may separate me from others is my work ethic, dedication, and character. I am a strong vocal leader and very coachable. There are so many talented and skilled golfers in the world but the ones that separate themselves from others is their mentality. I focus on controlling the things I can control. My emotions on the golf course, how I respond when things aren’t going my way, how I treat my partners when playing bad, etc. I continue to respect my surroundings and keep battling. I go to the range in the winter hitting out of a bay in frigid temperatures 4-5 days a week. In the summers, I practice and play from morning to night whether it’s raining or sunny. When I’m home, I take videos while hitting into a net. I may not be able to control many things, but the one thing I can control is how hard I work. I made a promise to myself that no one will ever outwork me.

Events

  • Division 2 State Championship:
  • 10/25/21 to 10/25/21
  • 2nd out of 96(70)(-2) Weather was brutal. 45 degrees with a steady rainfall and a lot of wind. Had a hard time finding fairways, but putted the lights out. Probably could've shot 67/68 really easily. Lipped a few birdies but hit my irons great all day. Lost by 1 shot.
  • Camp/Event
  • Division 2 Sectional Finals:
  • 10/19/21 to 10/19/21
  • 3rdout of 90 (75)(+3) Lost by 2 shots. Played really solid. Course was tough and tight. It was 36 degrees and forced mental toughness. Missed a few putts I should've made but overall a good day. Qualified for State Tournament.
  • Camp/Event
  • (HJGT) Sandy Burr Junior Open:
  • 7/24/21 to 7/25/21
  • Sandy Burr Junior Open: 8th Finish (71-75)(+2)(46 player field) First Round played pretty solid with 1 under but still left quite a few shots on the course Second round was a struggle and was grinding. I was struggling with my approach shots and couldn't get any good birdie looks. Didn’t find a groove until last 8 holes https://tournaments.hjgt.org/Scoreboard?TournamentID=16977
  • Camp/Event
  • (Challenge Cup):Boys Challenge Cup Championship:
  • 7/21/21 to 7/22/21
  • T-14 Finish (76-68)(+6) (120 player field) Really rough first round (5 3-putts). Had no feel on the greens, but hit the ball really well. Really steady second round. Probably left 2-3 strokes out there. http://www.juniorgolfresults.golfstat.com/gscode/public/leaderboards/player/index.cfm?tournament_id=1099
  • Camp/Event
  • (Challenge Cup) Golfweek New England Junior Open:
  • 7/14/21 to 7/15/21
  • T-4 Finish (74-79-71)(+11) (56 player field) 36 holes first day and 18 the second First round had 2 bad holes (10 and 11) which resulted in a double/bogey. The first round was a comfortable 65 degrees and the second round turned into a 90 degree humid day and really got to me. Second Round I lost focus and lacked execution. The Third Round I was playing really well. Probably could’ve shot 66 or 67 (needed par on the last hole to shoot 69 and made double). https://www.golfgenius.com/pages/7146725478009672878
  • Camp/Event
  • Lowell Cities:
  • 6/23/21 to 6/26/21
  • T-10 Finish (75-79-74)(+11)(47 player field) First and third round I played pretty solid minus 3 holes. I made 3 bogies in a row that should not have happened. Hit good shots and got bad breaks. Second round was a grind. I wasn’t swinging it great but I was even through 14 holes and made course management errors on the easiest holes on the course and made some mistakes. https://www.golfgenius.com/pages/3074014
  • Camp/Event
  • (HJGT) Massachusetts Season Finale:
  • 8/13/20 to 8/14/20
  • 3rd Finish (80-74)(+12) First Round: I was struggling off the tee. Did not play well and my short game was the only thing that was working. Second Round: Played steady all day and left 2-3 birdies out there. https://www.hjgt.org/results/massachusetts-season-finale
  • Camp/Event
  • NEPGA Jr Tour - Windham CC and Campbell's Scottish Highlands:
  • 7/07/20 to 7/08/20
  • 2nd Finish (77-71)(+5)(32 player field) First Round: Only hit 5 greens in regulation and grinded the whole round with my short game. I hit ball well just couldn't score. Second Round: Played really solid. I couldn't get anything going on the front and had 3 birdies in a row on 9-11. Caught a grove and finished strong. Left a few shots out there. https://nepgajt.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/nepgajt20/event/nepgajt2020/contest/5/leaderboard.htm
