Who is Ian Walker? All my life, I've been a competitor in everything I've done. I pride myself on excellence both in the classroom and on the course. I've never been one to settle for mediocrity, and love to push my teammates, as well as be pushed. I have always been a very coachable athlete who is happy to take constructive criticism and use it to better my game. I am also an unselfish teammate who is happy to be used wherever a coach needs me. I have a great relationship with both of my parents and they have helped me strive to be a great young man, better each day than I was the day before.
The game of golf has been in my family for a long time, and I was inspired by both my dad and grandpa to get into the sport. From the moment I stepped foot on the fairways, I've loved the game, and been driven to improve. At the age of 9, I set out to play my first tournament with no expectations, and stepped off with my first victory against the older boys. Ever since that day, it's been my goal to play at the highest level possible and strive to be the best. Last year, as a sophomore, my team won the conference and regional championships, and finished top 10 in the state. Personally, I was first-team all-conference and my score counted in 16 out of 18 events, more than anyone on the team. This year our team is ranked #1 in the state. We won our Conference Championship recently and I was named first team all conference for the second year. I started the season with a streak where my score counted in the first 12 tournaments, including last year, that is 28 of my first 30 events as a varsity golfer where my score contributed to our success.
That drive also translates to the classroom, where I pride myself on the success I've had. My weighted GPA is currently 4.022 including the first half of my Junior year. I am currently taking two AP classes, and plan on taking at least two more next year with hopes of graduating with above a 4.1 weighted grade point. As for standardized testing, I have taken the SAT and my score was 1390. I plan on taking the ACT in early July. My college plan at this point is to pursue Pre-Med, Ophthalmology, or Business.
