2015 Texas District 1-6A Champion 71-71
I first want to start by introducing myself, my name is Evan Macias, I am starting my senior year in high school and I am from Texas. I attend Coronado High School in El Paso which is a Division 1-5A school. I currently hold a 3.4 GPA, which includes AP courses. I am 17 years old and my graduation year is 2015. I am 6’1” tall and weigh 180 lbs.
Since the age of the 12 I have been competing in adult tournaments including Men's City Championships, Pro-Am's, and Amateur Qualifiers.
Beginning my freshman year I have been part of the Varsity team holding positions 1 and 2. All of the high school tournaments were 2 day events that included teams from Dallas/Ft. Worth and San Antonio. The 1-5A region is the largest competitive region in Texas covering over 50% of the state.
I have had the opportunity to play in California, Arizona, West/Central/East Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah and New Mexico where I have earned multiple victories on golf courses that I played for the first time, and without a practice round. I believe that playing at different altitudes, climates, and different types of golf courses is a big advantage. I believe in the “home field advantage” that’s why I’ve been traveling out of town since I was 10 years old, this way I feel at home away from home and that’s my home field advantage. A positive attitude and a level-headed demeanor are some of my strengths. Awesome shot, good shot, or bad shot my demeanor never changes. I have played on different Junior Tours; FCWT, FCT, Legends JGT, Golfweek, San Diego JGT, RMJGT, Sun Country JR PGA, and I have also played AJGA tournaments and qualifiers.
I have always worked extremely hard and it has paid off. I was named 2010 Player of the Year for the Golfweek Junior Tour. I set a new high school tournament-round of 64 and I am the only freshman to have ever won our 1-5A District Championship. During the 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 season, I held position number one and two on the Varsity team as a freshman, sophomore and junior. I currently hold the number one position. I know a lot of hard work is still ahead of me but I am looking forward to learning and improving my game.
