#Golfislife. A simple silly hashtag I know. But it is more than that to me as golf has transformed my young life and I know it will be an integral part of it going forward.
Nobody in my family is a golfer. I was introduced to this amazing sport later in life when I joined a local PGA JR league summer golf camp before my 6th grade year. None of my friends joined, but I was open to new experiences and challenges after realizing after playing competitive soccer was not what I wished to pursue. Towards the end of my second summer in Jr League I was hungry to learn and progress more. At this time private lessons were suggested and luckily I am fortunate enough this was an option for me. What came next was more than I could have hoped for or imagined. Not just in the massive progression with my understanding of the golf swing and game, but in meeting the largest positive adult role model and influencer in my life outside my parents in "Golffather" Brad Peterson. We met by circumstance in the summer of 2019 after Brad just relocated to DFW. None of the local pros knew who he was. Our first lesson was in a storage locker in which he showed me a swing he invited and rebranded the "JuJu Swing" after his daughter Juju. I was fascinated with the mechanics of this swing and why it worked and Brad's passion for it. I realized my golf game starting later in life was behind others and I have always been willing to take on risks and new challenges. It was the greatest risk I ever took. Not only did the revamped swing drastically improve my game, but I made a lifelong friend. Golf brought Brad into my life and I know it will continue to bring other people into it. That is one of the greatest things about golf. My love and understanding of the game of golf has grown with Brad these past four years I have been lucky enough to learn under his mentorship. I am happy for my friend that his coaching career as concurrently blossomed as the JuJu swing through TikTok (@thejujuswing) and other sites has received more attention and validation from the golfing community.
I am not sure where the game of golf will take me beyond where I am now, but I am excited about the possibilities including contributing on a college team and perhaps a post college golf career. A major in business including possibly the PGA Management Program is something I am strongly considering. I am excited for challenges to come, the places they will take me and the personal connections I will continue to make along the way. #Golfislife.
