Matthew (Matt) Houle '25 Recruiting Profile

Hello Coach,

My name is Matt Houle.

I have dreamed of playing hockey at the D1 college hockey level since the age of 12 - when I first started watching college hockey on TV. I loved the fast paced, finessed style of play as well as the venues and college crowds that were so engaged and immersed in the game.  I see my skills, both athletic and academic, as fitting in perfectly with the collegiate atmosphere and college style of play.

I have spent my entire life growing up in the "hockey hotbed" of Edmonton, Alberta - Canada. I started skating at three (3) years of age and began playing organized hockey at the age of four(4).  Since that time, I have always played at the highest level hockey (AA/AAA) and now play full time with the Maple Leaf Athletic Club (MLAC) U17 AAA as well as an affiliate with the Edmonton Junior Oilers (Orange) U18 AAA.

To ensure my academic and athletic growth, I attended hockey academies since grade four (4) - Mount Carmel Elementary / Junior High Hockey Academy and (currently) St Francis Xavier High School High Performance Hockey Program. 

My hockey "game" is that of an elite skating - offensive minded defenseman who can move pucks and jump into the play. My academic "game" is that of a focused math and physics student who currently has a 3.5 GPA. In short, I am a highly organized, success focused student and athlete. 

Beyond hockey and school, I am an individual that possesses a strong character and can always be relied upon to be the person, player, teammate, student and ambassador who always plays, behaves, acts and represents the "right way".
