William Owen '15 Recruiting Profile

Thank you for taking the time to review my profile as I am excited about the opportunity to further my hockey career. My best attributes are my skating, speed and strength. I have strong skill sets and with the right program I know I can succeed.  I was currently honored by my coaches and teammates by being named Team Captain for the 2014-15 Season. I feel I am extremely coachable and also well-liked by my teammates, my coaches, my peers in school and my teachers.  I have a positive attitude and am hard worker.  I currently train at 2SP, a facility used by amateur to professional athletes in multiple sports.  I work very hard at school to maintain A-B honor roll at a rigorous Catholic prep high school. 

I have played hockey since I was 6 years old when we moved to Michigan.  I have loved the sport since my Dad (who played Division I college hockey) introduced me to the game. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to play in tournaments in the Czech Republic as a member of the USA Selects.  I played on a team that won the International Silver Sticks Championship in Canada. I have been a defenseman for my entire career and even had the opportunity to further develop my skills playing forward last season as my coach wanted to utilize my size and skating speed. I enjoyed playing forward and feel that the experience has made me a better defenseman.  I have a better understanding of how a forward sees the ice.  I can use this to anticipate the play and break the puck out more efficiently.  Hockey has helped me to meet new people, see new places and I hope it will bring new opportunities in the future.
