Finishing high school season last year with only 11 points in 21 games was truly humbling. It made me realize the elevated step in competition and skill between high school hockey and club hockey. After realizing the challenge presented to me in Freshman season, I decided that I wanted to return to my sophomore season as an improved player in every aspect of the game. That meant becoming not only a better player, but also a better teammate; there to help everyone around me with both motivation and strategy. I finished my sophomore season with 30 points in 20 games played; which was a big step up for me.
Through my sport I found that I have the ability to handle adversity and obstacles in front of me. When things were going against us this season I would play through the struggles with confidence and perseverance in order to benefit my team. In doing so, I was becoming a better player. No matter if we were down 5 or up 5, I would always give it my all to try to get my team back into the game. I feel that I have been able to translate hockey ethics into traits for improving my academics. Academically, I find I am very hard working and focused in the classroom. I try to keep my grades high in order to have more college options/opportunities. I feel that with my drive, both in athletics and academics, I have the ability to be a great college teammate, athlete, and student.
