Personal Statement

My personal goals include a desire to play hockey at college,  earn the honor of placing on the All-Academic Team, and balance my athletic and academic experience with the excitement of new experiences and meeting new people.  My future collegiate goals include pursuing a masters and potentially a doctorate after my bachelor's degree. I am also interested in giving back to hockey community by working with younger players through skill development camps as a general counselor and goalie coach.  I have been volunteering at the Terry Fox Run NYC for the last several years and I was the volunteer coordinator at the event in 2019 and 2021.

As a team player, my best quality is my leadership, both on and off the ice.  I am a hard worker, and I enjoy developing and leading the dynamic warm up for my current teams. I have a unique perspective of the game as well because I am not only a player but also a Level 2 certified USA Hockey referee so my knowledge of game is from two perspectives.  At the end of the day though, it is a game I enjoy and it's not beneath me to pick up the pucks, straighten up a locker room, or help to make sure practice runs smoothing because I know that I represent a team and organization and will always do so in a positive way.

Part of my work ethic has developed from the challenge of living 30 minutes  from where I go to school and participate in sports. I have learned to effectively manage my time and commitments because I have had to balance school, athletics and my travel time. I have maintained an A average (3.9/4.00 GPA) at school with several AP classes,  while also playing travel hockey with the Connecticut Junior Ranger's Tier 1 U18 team and varsity high school hockey and track.

  • Amateur Hockey Report Scout Report - Benjamin Madden 04 – G: Madden played well just like his netmate. He saw the shot and made the save with confidence. He challenged the shooter and worked hard to limit rebounds and if he did give them up, he covered them quickly. He read the play and showed decent anticipation and technical skill for his age. NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
