Personal Statement
Goal oriented, hard work and grit all define my approach to life. I take pride in my academic, as well as, my athletic achievements. Maintaining a competitive GPA is at the core of who I am. Time management, resiliency and the ability to learn from setbacks, and the inner desire to succeed are all attributes I possess in the classroom and as a student athlete. Doing so allows me to set a positive example as a teammate and leader, to proudly represent my sport, and to give back to my community through volunteerism.
Sports have been an integral part of my life. Growing up I’ve played football and soccer, as well as, participated in track and field. However, hockey is my passion. It is a game that I love to play. As a defensemen, I am motivated to perform at an elite level of competition. I started skating at the age of 4 and instantly fell in love with the game. Spending my free time to work on stick skills or shooting has made me a better player. Since 2014, I have been playing for the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets. Through private lessons, team coaching, and attending camps such as the World V-Red Prospect Advanced Camp, I have focused on developing my defensive skills by improving my first pass accuracy, shooting, stickhandling, and gap control.
Given the opportunity to continue towards my goals of achieving excellence both in the classroom and on the ice, I am dedicated to playing hockey at the highest level. In addition, I am interested in pursuing a career in education and coaching hockey. I appreciate the opportunities and experiences I have had while participating on an elite competitive team. These influences have made me the person, learner, teammate, and athlete that I am today. For me, it is my desire to give back to the sport that has influenced me the most by coaching upcoming youth hockey athletes.
