Joel Apthorp '24 Recruiting Profile

My name is Joel Apthorp and I am a dedicated athlete from London, ON. I started playing hockey when I was 4 years old, and have focused extensively on becoming an all-around team player that can improve any team. This season, I am playing for the Komoka Kings team in the GOJHL as their go-to centreman. 

I have decided I would like to attend a D3 college because I value academic-athletic balance. From a young age, my family taught me the value of education, and by choosing D3, I know I would be successful in both my athletic and academic goals.

I am a confident centreman who is willing to take on more physical plays. Coaches have described me as a responsible player on the ice and very coachable. One of my greatest skills that sets me apart as a player is my ability to anticipate where the play is going and think ahead in my next moves. I pride myself on being a conscious playmaker and approach the game with a pass-first mentality. My teammates know me as the guy who will make the right pass to them for the goal. I’ve played on many different teams throughout my athletic career and have learned leadership and teamwork skills that I am able to bring to any locker room.

Through my dedicated training, I am confident that I am ready to take the next step and bring my skills to college. I have a positive attitude and learned resilience from overcoming any challenge that comes up. Each time I’m on the ice my goal is to make a measurable difference, either with the puck or helping change momentum physically, to contribute to my team’s success.
