My name is Brenden Patterson and I’m 16 years old. This year I will be playing for the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders 16AAA during the 2023 - 2024 season. In addition to my team commitments, I attend the Billy Pye Academy which includes four sessions a week of both on ice instruction and strength and conditioning from Dallas Strength Coach. I also attend the In The Crease goalie training weekly during the season to focus on minor adjustments and new progressions. I am continually focused on what I can do to improve on my skills and to get better including small skating sessions or camps. I found hockey as a U8 and could not get enough. During a U10 tournament I volunteered to play goalie and never looked back! Since then I have been focused on continuous improvement and accountability for not only myself but for my team.
I have a lot of passion for the game but also for how everything works around the sport. During my time off I also work at the rink to see the operations of the facility. I also work in the youth “learn to skate” program and volunteer time to help new goalies and other youth teams. I try to be an example for other players and demonstrate how to be coachable.
Outside of hockey, I am focused on my academics and looking forward to my college education and experience. I have a focus on business management (sports focus) and computer programming (development of new code for sports VR) which is also a passion of mine. I am motivated to keep high grades and show that I am not only a strong athlete but also a driven student. I have taken Honors courses and am preparing myself for college.
I am hoping to continue my hockey into college and utilize my experience to help other organizations with their programs and technologies to help grow hockey in other areas.
