I can still remember my first time putting on the skates, it was the coolest thing I thought any four year old could achieve. It was once I realized how much fun it was to play hockey that I developed the idea that this is what I wanted to do. I was always playing some sort of hockey, whether that be officiated games, team practice, pond hockey tournaments, or on the outdoor rink with friends. I always had that game day mentality of "I have to win." To me, the key things that will lead me to success are loyalty, preparation, dedication, and execution. Those four characteristics are important to me because I believe that it is those that create a great person on the ice and a better person off the ice.
Now for a little bit about my story, it was the middle of my first year as a mite and it was just about game time, our goalie did not show up. With me always doing what I can to help the team, I put on the pads and fell in love with the game itself, especially goaltending. Since that day I have been on many teams, and in many tournaments, of course bringing trophies home from some of them. I have played for different AAA teams and started to realize that goalie was my calling. As a sophomore, I was the starting goalie for my high school team, the Lakeland Thunderbirds. I maintained over a .936 save percentage and was top ten in the state for minutes played, save percentage and shots against according to Wisconsin Prep hockey.
As I am striving to continue my work on the ice, I am doing the same in the classroom. I think one of my best attributes is being on the ice and on the road so much for hockey and still making the time to do homework and maintain a 3.4 GPA. I am also advanced in a couple of my main subjects such as math and science. I take my hockey and schooling very seriously, making time to do one or the other almost all the time. Juggling school and hockey can sometimes be difficult but I will do whatever it takes to get both done. Whether that is doing homework when I get home at midnight after games or waking up early to get it done.
What makes me different from other goalies is I am dedicated to working hard in both school and hockey to the point that I succeed in both. The way I act in the classroom is the same as how I act in the rink and community. With me always striving to be the best, and having a no-quit attitude, I am prepared to apply everything I know on the ice and in the classroom. I have loyalty, great preparation skills, dedication, and impeccable execution. With that said, I believe I would be a valuable asset to your team and community.
