Greetings future coach,
My name is Michael Surwilo and I am a member of the class of 2024. I attend St Augustine High School in San Diego, California which is an academically challenging preparatory high school to prepare for the rigors of college. I highly value my education and am dedicated to ensuring my academic status is always at a high level. I play both field and box lacrosse and play for or have played for SoCal Bulls, Rippin' Twine, RC Select, Laxdawgs Select, Mad Dog SD & NLL's Jr Seals Box Lacrosse. This year will be my 4th year on the varsity lacrosse team. I am a hard worker, unselfish and a team player.
Although a natural lefty I have worked hard always with both hands to ensure my right hand is as strong. This has allowed me to sweep, pass, feed and shoot from any location on the field. Although I primarily play midfield, I also play attack and regularly plays both positions during a game and although on the back burner for now I have been a face off player in both club lacrosse and during my freshmen year on varsity.
Something that surprises coaches when they first meet me is I started playing competitive lacrosse in the 7th grade, which I know is late compared to my peers. I actually find this to be an advantage. I have had to work hard to get to this level quickly and be competitive. I feel I have so much potential to gain from my continued play and from future coaches who are looking for players to develop for their team. Although relatively new to competitive lacrosse I have a high lacrosse IQ, understanding of the game and of all of the positions I play.
I am looking for a lacrosse program where I can contribute to the team and support my teammates and coaches. A team that has a healthy culture and a positive atmosphere.
I am planning to leave California and attend a university or college on the east coast like my sister who in 2022 graduated from Rutgers University. My father played college lacrosse at Westfield State in Massachusetts and my uncle played at the University of Richmond and I am looking forward following in their steps. I am very much looking forward to making my decision on where to attend and who's program to be a part of.
If you would like to see my highlights you may do so here or on Hudl. Please also watch the game films so you can see my overall play, both my successes and potential improvements you would bring to my game. If you are at a tournament, I am at I hope you have an opportunity to see me play. If you would like me to attend a certain tournament, prospect day or camp please do reach out to me or my dad and perhaps we can coordinate that occurring.
Thank you very much for taking to time to ready my letter and good luck with your season.
~Michael V. Surwilo
