Matt Van Dusen - RJHS 2020
The biggest event in my life that has influenced me is when I led my freshman high school lacrosse team to an undefeated season. This gave me a lot of confidence in my ability and showed me how far I can go. However, my most humbling moment is losing a winter tournament championship with my club team. I put so much effort and time into this process and it was hard to see it get extinguished. My lacrosse journey started when I was very young. My father started me in lacrosse when I was four years old - I loved it, and have been playing it ever since. Through my time playing the sport, I have learned a great deal about myself through the ups and downs. I learned that I can lead and inspire a team and how to overcome adversity through perseverance. Lacrosse has helped me get through some obstacles in my life too. When I was young, my mother was dealing with a health issue and times were a little difficult. Lacrosse helped me keep my spirits up and forget about troubles for a while. I am a determined person who values other people’s interests. I am a great listener and am loyal to those I care for.
My goals for my high school career are to maintain a high GPA, become president of a school club, and excel in sports. My goals for college are to be at the top of my business classes, play four years of college lacrosse, and leave college ready for new experiences in the business world.
