Though I have aspirations of playing lacrosse at the highest level, my goals and dreams have always been centered around academics. My goal of studying neuroscience, or cellular and molecular biology, is driven by my desire to help others. After my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, and our house was severely damaged by Hurricane Florence, I felt the need to give back to the community after so many people helped my family. Through my involvement in Student Council and Future Business Leaders of America, I was able to help coordinate multiple service projects to help patients of the local cancer center. My work in the community helped me to see that there’s more to extracurriculars and clubs than just another way to pad an application. It has definitely made me a more dedicated and intuitive person, which has translated onto the lacrosse field by helping me form bonds with all of my teammates. As a result, it has helped me to bring a form of unity to the team.
Being in leadership positions in several clubs and teams (such as Student Council President and travel lacrosse team captain), has given me more opportunities than most to observe how crucial everyone is to a cause. Also, during my time of playing lacrosse, I have spent significant time at face-off, middie, defense, and attack, which I feel gives me a better understanding of the game and everyone’s responsibilities. Being in these positions on the field and in the classroom has molded me to be a solid base to be able to support and raise others up to success, whether it be in sports or academics.
