As an only child and a first/second generation American, I aspire to live up to my school’s values and be a leader of positive change, have an optimistic attitude, work hard, and persevere through hard times, while always being academically serious. One thing that motivates me to do so is my favorite sport, rowing.
I have loved rowing ever since I started in 2017 as a 7th grader with NorCal Crew. Rowing is not just a sport; it is about being a better person. Being with eight other guys in the boat teaches you to rely on others and be reliable yourself. Rowing also teaches discipline and not complaining. I currently row 6 days a week with my team and on my erg at home. It’s easier to be disciplined when you are doing something you love.
This past year, as a varsity rower, I have rowed primarily as a 2 seat, and have developed a very strong bond with my teammates. I was selected to attend the Central Youth Championships and the Youth National Regatta. In the Central Youth Championships U17 8 race, we placed 3rd and received a bronze medal. In the Youth National Regatta, we came in first in the B final, placing 7th in the nation. This past weekend at Head of the Lake we placed 1st in the Men's U17 - 8 race. All of these experiences have convinced me that I definitely want to row in college. I intend to work hard the next two years to improve my erg scores in preparation to row in college.
I may only be 5'9" but what I lack in height, I make up for in strength, determination, and technique. I want to be successful in life, so I can help make the world a better place and make my parents proud. I take things very seriously, but I also believe in having fun.
