I have been exposed to rowing throughout my life, including at a summer camp, but I effectively started training for the sport when I joined Marin Rowing in January of 2021. While my strength is still developing, I have been pleased that in my first racing season I was able to contribute in the bow seat of the Marin 2V to strong victories at San Diego (6:02, 8-second win), the SouthWest Regionals (6:05, 8-second win), and the 2v8 National Championships in Sarasota (5:58.2, 1.7 second win).
My performance on the erg is developing. While test opportunities have been limited, in recent workouts my coach has measured consistent 10-15% improvements in the last couple of months. My goal is to go under 6:30 in the next year. I have also been pleased to win decisively two seat races in recent weeks, both against rowers that were 3-4 splits faster than me on the erg. I have also demonstrated that I can be effective on starboard, port, and sculling.
At Marin Academy, a highly selective private school that offers no AP/IB classes or credits, I have maintained a consistently strong academic performance with an unweighted GPA of 3.78. My academic passions include the science of the human body, and while I have not decided on a likely major, related areas of interest include psychology and public health. In college rowing, my ultimate goal is to be an important contributor to a fast varsity crew both through the power of my oar and my spirit and work ethic.
My passion and physiology for rowing benefit from a strong family history in the sport -- my father rowed in a fast Cal 1V and my cousin was a three-time Olympian in women's sculling. I also genuinely love the deep level of teamwork the sport requires - the beauty of rowing as it reflects the essence of collaboration.
