What makes me a good candidate for your team?
I believe that I am a great addition to a rowing team because I am a strong, reliable, and encouraging teammate on and off the water. When I ERG, I pace myself so I can complete the workout and give my best consistently during the workout. During the times, when my teammates are ERGing, I encourage them with positive reinforcement, which results in them digging deeper to get faster knowing they have the support. Lastly, I believe I am a good candidate for the team because I set the expectation of giving your best because I give it all for the boat. I am usually the one to pump them back up and make them ready for the challenges to come in that practice.
What makes me different from other recruits in character, athletics, or academics?
I believe I am different from other people because even though I have some athletic challenges, such as my asthma and also being late to have a growth spurt, you cannot make excuses. I know that I have to give more and push through, using not only my athletic ability to beat the competition but also strategize and problem solve so I can achieve the most I can. For Example, I went at full speed for a 2k and I was having very bad asthma, and didn’t know if I could keep going. However, I sucked it up, and I pushed harder then I did before to get a higher split then. In addition, I set a high expectation of myself academically. By taking challenging classes and consistently challenging myself, I keep pushing my limits and succeeding by achieving a high grade point average and actively preparing to take the ACT.
