My name is Aditya Bhadra and I first started rowing in my summer going from 9th to 10th grade. I have always enjoyed aquatic activities, and soon after I started rowing I realised that I feel calm and at peace on the water. Due to this I never had to force myself to go to rowing, I was always excited to go and I wanted to get faster and better, not just physically but also technically. I also did cross country when I was younger which helped me build stamina.
Being a second degree blackbelt in taekwondo, I have spent more than 300 hours teaching younger children and my peers, as well as motivating students to better themselves. This helped me build discipline and taught me how to lead a group.
During the pandemic my academics and my mental health were both derailed, which led to me spiraling downward. Rowing, however, introduced discipline and purpose to my life because I had something that I had to work towards. After the pandemic I was able to get a hold of myself. which led to me being able to take 1 AP course in my sophomore year and 4 APs during my junior year. I also plan on taking 4 more AP classes in my senior year.
I want to continue doing rowing in college because of the fact that it not only keeps you physically fit, but also helps maintain discipline. With collegiate rowers doing two or more workouts a day and still having to preserve their academics, they have to create good habits in order to maintain a balance throughout their college career - something my coach always reinforces, especially during longer practices.
I would be a good addition to a college team because I am determined, I work well with other people, and I also bring lots of energy and movtivation to myself, as well as the team.
