Personal Statement
I am a senior at Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia. As a 6'2 portside sweeping rower, I generally row stroke seat. I began rowing as a freshman in my high school program's first year, and have fallen in love with the sport since my first season. In my sophomore year, I rowed stroke seat in the Men’s Junior Varsity 4 category and were undefeated in our VASRA season. We won all three VASRA regional races, placed first at the Virginia State Championship, and advanced to the semi finals at the SRAA National Championship. Through hardwork and dedication to our team, we accomplished our goal: delivering the first state championship to our high school team. Through rowing, I have learned that I am very motivated, I never want to let my teammates or coaches down, and I can accomplish anything if I put the work into it. When attending the Naval Academy Crew camp in the summer of 2018, I learned that the number one trait an athlete can have is coachability. By taking the constructive criticism from coaches and my teammates, I’ve been able to improve my technique and become a better rower. In addition to rowing, I have been a scout since 2008. In scouting, I have learned many skills such as leadership, teamwork, and discipline . I have a 3.8 GPA and am on the A-B honor roll. I want to find a college that balances between crew and my academics, possibly looking into a major in the field of engineering.
