Personal Statement

My goal is to row in a competitive program at a college or university that challenges me academically in my preferred major of History. Two qualities that I possess that demonstrate my athletic, leadership, and character attributes that will make me a good member of a college team are self-motivation and leading by example.

When COVID shut down my freshman season, I could have stopped rowing until we returned to the water, but instead I continued to work out and erg, and competed in the 2020 USRowing Virtual Youth National Championships. I continued to train on the water with the Occoquan Boat Club to improve my rowing skills in both a pair and a double. As a result, as a sophomore, I earned a seat in the men's 1-8 boat and have kept that seat for the last two seasons. I work out and erg during the off-season, as well as during my high school swim season, and this fall I will be racing for TBC Racing in Washington, DC so that I can be the best rower I can be.

It is easy to follow others, but I possess the traits and the drive to lead. I am a strong believer in leading by example, and I set high expectations for myself that can be seen in my actions to help guide my peers. I am a two-sport Varsity Letter earner, and the Captain of my high school men's swim team. I use this experience as Captain of the swim team to lead and mentor rowers, both novice and returning, on my high school crew team. I set an example everyday by showing up ready to row and giving 100 percent to motivate other rowers to help set them and our team up for success.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
