My mom has a picture of me at age 3 standing with one foot on a tiny soccer ball while watching a local college team practice. While I doubt my dream at that age was fully concrete, I know that for as long as I can recall, my passion has been the game of soccer. I love matches but also the comradery of being on a team, pushing myself to be better, and preparing my mind and body during training. I want this love to continue as long as possible and this is why being a collegiate student-athlete is one of my greatest goals.
I am a strong player and an even stronger teammate. I am a physical player who puts his body where it needs to be to connect with the ball. I am not intimidated by other players in my pursuit of the ball or the goal. I enjoy studying the game, learning more about how to enhance my body’s performance, and contributing to the team’s positive dynamics. Several years ago, a coach made the comment that he knew he could put me in any position and that I would get the job done. I have taken that compliment to heart and approach every opportunity on the pitch as a mission to be completed. I am known on the field as a player who plays with heart, tenacity, and grit. I am always the first on the field and the last to leave. When I set a goal for myself as a player, I do not fall short.
I recognize that to continue playing the game I love, I must be a good student. I have already completed multiple credits towards graduation as I began advanced courses in junior high and continue to take advanced courses. I am involved in campus and community activities as well including my church youth group, volunteer opportunities, and student activities. My priority is to reach my full academic potential through good time management, prioritization, and dedication.
I am interested in pursuing a career in which I can work with individuals with disabilities. I worked last summer at a camp for children with disabilities and found this to be a passion of mine. I am not sure if I will pursue a career in physical therapy, speech-pathology, or occupational therapy but am excited to learn about available options. I recognize that my career as a soccer player is finite. I honestly believe that the lessons I have learned as a student-athlete will make me a better employee and professional leader in my field of choice.
I am loyal to my teammates, coaches, friends, and family. I strive to be a positive influence on those around me, especially my younger brother and sister. I want them to see me set goals and achieve them so that they will do the same.
