Personal Statement
To whomever is reading this, my name is Luke Hendriksen, and I believe that I am a great candidate for your team. Through my entire life I have played the game of soccer, and as each season progresses, my skills and abilities improve. The reason that I believe myself to be a great candidate is that I am hard worker. Many players are very talented and skilled but refuse to put in any extra effort to further their skill level and develop themselves as players. I am not one of those players, I view myself as talented and skillful but most importantly, I am willing to work even harder to become the best player that I can be, on and off the field. Becoming a better player happens whenever I go to practice or just kick a ball around which is what a lot of other players do, but becoming a better person is something that I believe separates me form the crowd. I am part of a non-profit organization called Young Men's Service League (YMSL) where mothers and their high school aged sons work to better their community through philanthropic activities. Each year the moms and boys have to individually log a certain number of community service hours, and I pride myself on the fact that I always do many hours above the suggested number. I joined YMSL in hopes of becoming a better person, and just like with becoming a better player, I constantly am working on it and hoping to improve. Another factor that makes me a great candidate is my academic prowess. During the school year I have to be very good at time management, among other things, because I am enrolled in many honors courses while also being a school athlete. This has been tough for me, but I am proud to say that I am a mostly straight A student, and also a starter on my high school soccer team. I hope that after sharing my opinions on how I as a student-athlete am different from the millions of other candidates, you will consider me to be a part of your team.
