Humility and resiliency. Something I’ve acquired over the years of playing and has shape the person I am today. Soccer has enhanced all aspects of my life. From expanding my worldview, to creating relationships and building character.
Blessed with the opportunity to travel to Barcelona, Spain to attend the Barcelona Academy Camp, I was able to play and learn soccer from people with different backgrounds and immerse myself in the Spanish culture. I visited La Rambla and drank from the fountain Font de Canaletes, which is said to make those who drink from the fountain fall in love with Barcelona and make them destined to return. I believe through hard work and determination, I can make that dream come true and return to Europe.
I’ve benefitted from training with different coaches throughout my career. Each coach with different perspectives and philosophies, I’ve taken learnings from each one. The idea of making myself better is like boosting stats in FIFA which has always been appealing to me.
Due to the events of this past year and some unexpected circumstances, I had no foreseeable club activities to look forward to. Practice is an escape and a way for me to hone my craft. Left to train on my own, this is where my resolve and motivation was put to the test. I had to dig deep to hit a new level in my play. Because of this situation of being humbled, my urge to become better to reach that next level intensified.
What kind of player am I? What can I contribute to your program? I lead by example and my drive is boundless. As a player, I compete fiercely whether in practice, scrimmage or high stakes games and strive to contribute to the success of the team. When I play, I recognize the best play for the team. If it means giving up my own shot for a better opportunity by someone else, I do it without a second thought. My mind set in every game is how can I make a difference.
My parents have always stressed the importance of education. Which is why I take great pride in my academics. I know if I want to succeed I need to be knowledgeable and informed about the world around me. College will advance my education as well as give me important life experience. Since I’ve had to balance soccer with academics it’s taught me time management, sacrifice, and focus. This prepares me for the rigors of college.
I’m excited about the possibilities and opportunities my future has in store. I hope that your college provides me with experiences and knowledge to propel me into the next stages of my life and in return, my commitment to excel and help contribute to the legacy of your institution.
