Personal Statement
Hello my name is Leo Aguilar, I am a three year varsity player. I am typically a right back back and I used to play center back but can really play anywhere on the back line. I started playing soccer for fun when I was 6 but started playing competitively when I turned 8. I have loved the game since I was 8 because that’s when I really started to train and experience the true feeling of what it was like to play soccer!
During my high school career I was on junior varsity my freshman year. And became a varsity soccer player from my sophomore year up until my senior year. Both my junior and senior years were when I truly became an important role on the field for my high school team. After a hard fought season the team and I finished 2nd in our 4A league and just missed the playoffs due to covid despite having a 8-2 record and qualifying for the 5A playoffs division. After my junior season I was selected to be a honorable mention All-League player. This meant so much to me especially after having a great change in roles and season with the team.
My senior year was my break out season, I switched to right back and finished with 5 goals and 3 assists which was something I had never experience. The team and I finished 2nd in our league again with a 13-1-1 record. We were in the playoffs, we ended up making all the way to the State Championship game . We lost, taking second, finishing out our season 17-2-1. After my senior season ended I was selected to be on 2nd team All-League and 2nd team All-State. I was in awe to be selected to be on 2nd team All-State, but I knew that I had worked hard all season by helping the team with goals, assists, and defensive play! This news not only made me grateful, but hungry to work harder and achieve something better for my hopeful future in college soccer!
As a defender I am comfortable in both a 3 and 4 back. For high school my team and I played in a 4 back. And I play in a 3 back for club. And I as a defender I can offer versatility in the back being comfortable with different formations. Something that sets me apart from other recruits is my willingness to be a team player and my drive. Although there are times to take a shot for yourself or take space your space to dribble, one player doesn’t make a team and my ability to be a team player can offer something more to the team. My drive is another great quality of mine. I love the game and I use my drive to push myself to be better on and off the field as well as to push others to do the same!
