Personal Statement
There are many aspects of my life that have shaped the person that I am today, from my parents' divorce, to playing the bassoon, to sports ‒ especially soccer. Each of these aspects has taught me something different. One event that has shaped me was my parents' divorce. It taught me patience and adaptability. At some points during the process, I was never sure what was going to happen. This taught me patience, and for me to stay patient I had to be able to adapt to each new situation as it came. Learning to play the bassoon has taught me perseverance. When I started playing the bassoon, my hands weren’t big enough to cover all holes for the notes. This hardship and my desire to play the bassoon taught me perseverance. Finally, sports have taught me how to integrate all of these aspects into my life and game, and in the process have taught me hard work, passion, balance, and that I'm not perfect. Soccer has taught me to not only balance school, sports, and life, but to be able to pursue them to the best of my ability. For me, passion is being able to get up in the morning and go to the turf before the sun rises, and still have the drive to get my work done after training in the afternoon. Soccer has taught me to balance everything that is going on in my life. I know that I will make mistakes along the way, but it is how I persevere that makes me the person and player that I am.
