My name is Joseph Weidner and I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years old. As a Freshman, I am currently the starting goalie for St. Petersburg Catholic High school, and a starter for my club soccer team, St. Petersburg Football Club, who competes in the Elite Academy league, one of the highest leagues in the U.S. In August of 2021, in a game of American football, I got a concussion that left me unable to move for around 90 seconds. Then, 6 months later, In a game of soccer I got another concussion that prevented me from moving. At that point, my father decided to move me in goal to keep me safe. He also required me to wear a concussion headband. In April of 2023 however, I ended up getting a 3rd concussion from diving into a post to make a save. Luckily, it was not as bad as the ones before it. Now I wear a full concussion helmet protect everywhere on my head (It also makes me look like Pter Cech which makes me excited everytime I wear it). I have become a decent goalkeeper, and have kept my aggression from the field and have incorporated it into my style of play. I have been captain on my club team for the past 2 years because I constantly communicate with my team and coaches before, during, and even after the game. My goal is to play in the EPL Championship under Hull City F.C, but I believe that college soccer is an amazing stepping stone to reach my goal. In every situation, I attempt to stay calm and show good sportsmanship to every player, coach, or staff member.
