Personal Statement
Soccer is more than just a sport for me. It’s my life, passion, and escape from reality. Growing up on the streets of Monrovia, Liberia, with no guarantee I will have a decent lunch or dinner after school to eat, all I really thought about was getting to the soccer field and playing soccer with my friends till like 8-9 at night everyday. Some aspects of playing in an African soccer environment have been embedded into my game: speed, physicality, and flare. Moving to the U.S in 2014, my love and passion for the sport never died; however, new doors and opportunities have been opened for me. Even though I was new to the country, through soccer, I was built relationships and interact with people who share the same love and passion as me. Ever since I arrived in Chicago, I played with numerous different youth teams and worked well with different players and coaches. I also had best highschool season last year, scoring 17 goals and helping my high school team reached regionals final for the first time in years. We unfortunately lost the final. Currently, I’ve started the MRL, WMC seasons, and later state cup with my new club: Chicago fire juniors city.
