Personal Statement

I would like to become a history teacher for either Middle School or High School.  This is my primary goal in attending college.  I currently have an above average GPA demonstrating that I can participate in extra curricular activities and sports while still doing well in my classes.  My secondary goal in attending college is to play soccer.  I have been playing as a goalkeeper since I was little while beginning more specialized training in junior high.  I participated in ODP during my 7th, 8th and 10th grade years in school and was selected to the state team my 7th and 8th grade years.  I have also sought out additional trainers throughout the years and kept up with training to continue developing my goalkeeping skills.  My current club team is Illinois Fire Juniors.  We joined the Chicago Fire Club in 2017 and during this first year I was selected from the 11 Chicago Fire Junior Club teams around the country as one of the two goalkeepers on their Elite team and played in the Mayors Cup International Tournament in Las Vegas.   I took this responsibility very seriously and played well.  I have demonstrated leadership skills on my high school, club, and middle school teams over the years and have earned my teammates respect.  I know how to balance being a leader without being bossy.  In addition, I am a very positive person and try to lift my teammates up even when things are not going well for us during the game.  If we get scored on I don't get down on my team, we get together and talk about what happened and what to do different in the future.  Lastly, I am a very coachable player.  I am always wanting to improve my skills and I understand that I always have much to learn and can always do better.  I feel that my positivity, leadership, and coachability makes me different from other soccer players and a great asset to any soccer team.

  • 2018 Fire Junior Elite Soccer Club (02)
  • Notes: This is a team that is selected from players throughout the 11 Chicago Fire Junior Teams through their Emerging Talent Program. This team will play in the Mayors Cup in Las Vegas, Nevada in February of 2018.
  • 2018 Illinois Fire Juniors (02 Premier & 01 Premier)
  • Notes: I am splitting time between my age group and the age group above me as goalkeeper as the '01 team does not have a goalkeeper. I am playing most games with the '02 team and our back up keeper plays most games with the '01 team. In showcases, typically I play 2 of the 3 games with the '02 team and 1 of the 3 games with the '01 team. I played one tournament, IFC Spring Invite, with the '01 team splitting time with the other goalkeeper, which we won and were undefeated, and 2 tournaments with the '02 team, the Illinois Fire Junior Spring Shootout for which I was the only goalkeeper and the Illinois Cup, splitting time with the other goalkeeper for the first three of the four games and was the only goalkeeper for the championship game. We won both of those tournaments and were undefeated in both. During those 3 tournaments I took 36 shots on goal and allowed 2 goals.
