Personal Statement
My family has been instrumental in creating the person that I am today on and off the soccer field. They have always been behind me supporting my dreams while teaching me along the way. My dad instilled in me a mentality of being humble. As long as you focus on improving yourself, people will take notice. No matter whether I am competing, studying, or working, I always try to live my life in this manner.
I began playing soccer in a recreational league. After a few years, I knew my love for the game so I started playing soccer with the local travel club by the age of 9. Over the many years with my club, I learned the value of pride and loyalty. Every time I played, I was representing a club that had decades of history behind it. I have been through good and bad with this club, with a low point coming when the club was broken up by a newly formed local club taking away the majority of the teams. Our team was one of the few teams that stayed because we felt it was the right thing to do. We were the senior team that helped lead the club back until it was at full strength again. Within the club I was able to perform volunteer related activities including coaching little kids camps and refereeing games. I know so many people through this club, and the community there is what keeps me coming back year after year. I hope to find another great community in a college soccer program in the future.
The tenacity that I learned on the soccer field has definitely carried over to the classroom. I am looking to complete both an undergraduate and a post graduate degree in Computer Science. While finding a job that allows me to live comfortably is important, my greater goal is that my work is something that positively impacts the lives of many.
