Personal Statement
My name is Giacomo Bustamante. I'm 15 years old. I'm currently on the U17 National Soccer Team and I have been called to reinforce the U20 National Soccer Team in a tournament to be played in Saipan from April 05 through April 8, 2024. I'm also playing this year in Division I and I love it.
I am now a sophomore in high school, a straight-A student who intends to be inducted into the National Honor Society this year. What distinguishes me from other players is my ability to make quick decisions in an environment with a large amount of information to memorize, retrieve, apply, and combine at the same time; however, to accomplish this, you must be able to work extremely hard with discipline, dedication, and integrity.
I perform exceptionally well under pressure and consistently give my all on and off the field. I am very coachable, and I welcome constructive criticism so that I may make necessary improvements.
My father played professional soccer in Peru and he also played for the U.S. Army soccer team. My dream and goal is to play professional soccer like my father did. I love soccer, however, I also value education which is very important in our family.
My older brother is currently in his second year at USMA West Point, and if I am not recruited by a professional soccer club to become a professional soccer player by the age of 17, my plan is to attend West Point to serve my country, as my father did and as my brother is doing now, and to play for the West Point soccer team, which is NCAA Division I.
This year, from June 8, 2024, to July 5, 2024, I will attend the Barcelona Residency Academy for four weeks, followed by the Texas A&M soccer camp from July 5th to July 10th.
I have worked hard during all these years. Since I can remember my dad has always guided and coached me. He always says that you must be a leader on the field and outside the field. Always lead by example and never whine or complain.
I have a routine every day, I get up at 5:00 Monday through Friday to work out with my dad for 45 minutes and this is done before attending school. I am reminded daily that the hard work and discipline I'm putting in every day is paving the path to success while many other kids my age are sleeping.
