Hello. My name is Alex Kopel. I am a Center Back at 6’3”, 180lbs. I have also played every position on the field through out my soccer career. I have played football, basketball, and soccer. I have been playing soccer my whole life. My love for soccer began with my father, Matt Kopel, who has played his whole life and for Saint Ambrose University. My mother, Michelle Kopel, a former basketball player and swimmer, is a very loving and caring supporter of my pursuit to play college and professional soccer by encouraging me and always being there for me in any aspect of my life. I also have one sister, Ariel Kopel, who currently attends the University of Iowa and is a biochemistry major. I now play with my father on men’s leagues in town. I have been playing in the men’s league since the 7th grade. Currently I am playing for Sporting Iowa East U19 team. For school I play for Assumption High School’s Varsity team. I was a starter at Center Back as a Freshman, and this year as a Sophomore. When I play I have no fear. I will attack with full speed, get a head on the ball, or shield the opponent for my goalie. I take the goal kicks, corner kicks, and penalty kicks. My special ability is to be able to place the ball where it’s needed. Whether that’s on a teammates head to score, or down the pitch to one of my strikers, I will get it to their feet or head. I am a good leader on and off the field. I like to hold extra training sessions for any of my teammates that want to work out or work on their skills. Encouraging my teammates to be their best makes us a better team.
Academically I currently am a 4.0 student and plan to pursue a college degree in architecture, engineering, design, or sports PT and training. As a college student I plan to study hard and keep my goals of having high grades to achieve my degree with honors.
I also enjoy other activities such as volunteering for the Senior Olympics, coaching younger kids in soccer at my former junior high and grade school, working as a referee for youth programs, and having fun with my friends and teammates off and on the field. I also enjoy collecting football cards and baseball cards. My favorite activity is of course soccer, soccer, and more soccer.
