Personal Statement
I was introduced to soccer when I first started walking. I was going out to my dad’s practices because he coached the boys’ varsity team at Tates Creek High School. So I’ve always had a ball at my feet as far back as I can remember, and I’ve learned much throughout the last seven years of competitive soccer. In this game at this level there is always going to be some conflict and adversity, and as a younger player I struggled to control my temper at times. My coaches, my parents and my teammates helped me understand that I could turn that intensity into something positive, and I tuned in to this intensity regularly when I play. My biggest challenge was when I was younger I wasn’t selected for the first team and dropped to the second. I didn’t let it discourage me. I worked my hardest, became a central player for the team and was able to make the top team the following year. This also allowed me to become a leader on the team both on and off the field. In fact, last year as a sophomore I was elected captain for the varsity team at Tates Creek coached by Albert Gross.
My academic goals for high school are to get the highest GPA and ACT scores possible and to continue to explore and research academic and career options in preparation for making final choices for majors and colleges. Although I’m still not sure of my future career or area of study, I do recognize the importance of a college education and know that earning a college degree is my priority.
My hope is that I can find a school that will match my desire for education and my love and level of play for soccer.
