There are thousands of talented high school age boys around the country and the world looking to play college soccer, so what sets me apart? Soccer is more than a sport to me, it’s a big part of who I am. I have enjoyed playing soccer every day of my life, since I was 5-years-old. When others were taking a break for winter or summer, I was playing futsal or training with my coaches. When there wasn’t an organized practice, I was using my rebounder in the backyard. When a practice or match is over, I am usually the last to leave the pitch, while talking to my coaches about the game. When I don’t have the ball at my foot, I am watching my games on video or professionals on television, intently studying the game. There’s lots of talent out there, but genuine passion and commitment aren’t things that are coached, it’s in your DNA. I believe this is a key reason so many individuals don’t make the most of their talent. I refuse to be one of them.
From the beginning, I have always played one to two brackets above my age group. I appreciate this is not the “norm,” and I have worked hard to challenge myself against bigger, faster, more aggressive competition to improve my game. Being able to play for a collegiate team will enable me to push myself to the next level, further develop my character and provide me with additional challenges. I have an intense desire to be part of a successful and hardworking team, one that pushes me to my limits during every training session, and one that will continue to make me a better player each and every day, both on and off the field.
As a student, I will continue to strive for high performance in all of my academic courses and balance my studies with my efforts on the field. Although I have not selected my exact field of study, I am looking at areas which leverage my individual strengths – specifically, technology design and interpersonal communication. So I am interested in programs that focus in Human-Centered Digital Design or Product & Service Design – helping bring together technology with creativity and innovation to develop real-world solutions. And I am seeking a program that gives me a great well-rounded experience, preparing me for success in life after college.
Soccer has truly helped me become who I am today. My positive attitude is a direct result of the coaches I have had and the competitive atmosphere that I continue to play in. I want to succeed at the next level as well as build a reputation as a skilled student-athlete that always gives 100% and pushes others to a higher level with my leadership and competitive mindset.
