Personal Statement
My name is Luke Parker and I am from the small coastal town of Westport, Massachusetts. I am currently enrolled in my junior year at Westport Junior Senior High School.
Although my high school career is not over, I am fortunate because I have made several long-lasting memories and I have learned some of life’s most important lessons. Going back to my freshmen year, I started at the varsity level with a group of seniors who had been in the program for a while. We ended the season with a 3W – 11L – 4D record and did not make the playoffs. Season record aside, I believe the seniors on that team established a winning culture which truly motivated me to dream big. They also taught me how to maximize my effort during every conditioning session, practice, and game.
The team really turned things around during my sophomore year and we finished the season with 9W – 7L – 3D record and a playoff invite. This particular season provided me with an opportunity to play aside a senior captain who exemplified the message that an athlete’s goals can be limitless if you play with integrity, believe in yourself, and embrace the idea of teamwork.
My most recent season brought another unique learning experience which taught me what needs to be done to establish myself as a well-rounded athlete. I was incredibly fortunate to share the pitch with three senior captains who opened my eyes to the fact that elite soccer players must focus on their health, mind, and body. As a result, I now try to eat healthy, work hard in the classroom, and remain in shape beyond the soccer season. I was also able to use this past season to improve upon my technical skills and tactical awareness. The end result was that my team ended the season with a 10W – 7L – 3D record and yet another post-season bid. I also earned a spot on the following regional teams: Mayflower Athletic Conference All Star, Herald News All Star, and Southcoast Fall Classic All Star. Lastly, I was named a captain for the Fall 2020 season.
All of these high school experiences have helped me to become a well-rounded student athlete. As a result, I believe I possess the qualities to compete at the college level and to become a valued member of the team!
