Jesus Alvarez '24 Recruiting Profile

I plan to live a successful life and get there through working harder every day and improving who I am in an efficient manner. I believe that competing with others is a waste which is why I do not compete with the people around me; I compete with myself. It does not matter how good my teammates are doing because that's good. I want them to be doing good. What matters is that I keep on improving every single day, whether it is physically or mentally. Taking AP courses has created more discipline in me because if I take those classes lightly, I will quickly see why it is important to stay on task. Also, there will always be someone better than you at something, but that doesn't matter. What matters to me is self-improvement. I work hard on and off the field and I will not quit until I am where I want to be. And where do I want to be? I want to be somewhere that will make my parents proud. I want them to see that the sacrifice they made, coming to this country with little resource and not knowing the native language, was the greatest bet they have ever made. 

My grades and peers will tell you that I have big dreams and that I work hard on a daily basis. What sets me apart from others is that I have a strong trust in God. I don't need to go to parties or hangout with the popular kids. That has no value, but God's teachings have all the value. My last high school game taught me that if I truly believe in the word of God (as it says in Isiah 40:31) that I will not grow tired but will regain strength and will soar through the air like an eagle. With a hardworking, goal-oriented mindset and through my faith, I will be where I want in the future.
