Personal Statement
Hi, I’m Cyrus Merriweather (‘23). I consider myself to be a leader, a playmaker and a very versatile player. I am Captain of both my club team and my High School team. For my club team, I led the team in assists last year as a CDM. This past Fall, I started every game as a winger (both right and left) on my HS varsity team, finishing second on the team with 3 goals (and added 2 assists, which was also second on the team). In addition, I played left outside back on my New Jersey ODP team, which is the position I consider my best in terms of playing in college. I am also a smart player, as evidenced by my grades (4.3 weighted GPA) and SAT score (1470).
I think the mental aspect of my game and my ability to use both feet separates me from other candidates. I watch a lot of soccer and intimately understand strategy. I always work as hard as I can for my team, I give 100% into every tackle, I always try to communicate and help out my teammates, I have a determination to win that separates me from others and I always put team results over individual accolades. Moreover, my ability to use both feet allows me to play on the left side, where coaches have tended to put me.
I would like to play college soccer because I love playing this sport, and I would love to continue playing after high school. I am a strong student with a 4.3 weighted GPA (out of 4.8) and a 1470 on my SAT. I have taken, or will have taken, 7 AP classes by the end of my Senior year. I am looking for a college that will challenge me academically as well as athletically.
