Nicolas Black '17 Recruiting Profile

I was born in Norway but my mom is from Trinidad and my dad is from Jamaica. The boundaries are only further pushed in that my grandparents are from the Caribbean and also from Europe. It is these cultural differences that I think makes my family so close and what played a huge part in my development. I grew up and spent most of my life on a small island, Barbados. That was until at least I decided to come to New Jersey. 

On the other hand there is my endless love for soccer. I remember one championship final that made me realize why I love this sport. We were being dominated the first half and at halftime I remember sitting there and thinking to myself there is no way I can lose this game. It is there that all my qualities truly showed. I stepped up as a leader in the team and tried to bring us back into the game. I thought of the early morning training I did with my dad. I knew all of the hard work could not be done in vain. With not long left in the game I made a hard tackle, won the ball and from behind my half saw my teammate running down the line. I picked him out with a long pass over the defense he crossed it and we scored the game winning goal. 

I decided I was going to leave my family and come to St. Benedicts Prep to play and further my career. It was tough leaving my family but I knew they would understand because all they want is the best for me. As I said before soccer puts a drive in me like nothing else. I have always maintained above a 3.60 GPA. I hope to earn my college degree and play soccer at the highest level possible.
