Sam Sunderland '24 Recruiting Profile

 I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old. Ever since I've started I've been addicted to the game and my improvement. Through my parents' teachings of hard work and persistence I learned to be hungry to be better even when I felt disappointed or when I simply didn't want to train. My not incredible freshmen year of soccer had many setbacks, the biggest being covid of course but there was also many others. Although I wasn't performing as well as I hoped to I learned a lot that season about determination, leadership and work ethic. Since that year I've been committed to bettering myself as a player and a person as much as I can.  Along with myself I've helped many of my teammates become better players while constantly supporting them through uplifting but also having serious talks about how to become a better player and teammate, always thinking of the team aspect. Through my many years of playing soccer I have built up some cornerstone attributes that are easily seen in my playstyle; love of the game, tenacity, and determination. My goal in sports is to consistently heighten the culture on and off of the field for my team. 

I am hoping to find a college that fits me well in both athletics and academically, always having a high GPA is very important for me as both of my parents are teachers and education is a key priority in my life.  I am looking to be challenged in college along with being able to enjoy my time at the college. My determination is not an athletic trait, it is brought through every aspect of my life. I am determined to commit to a stable education for myself. I am determined to have good relationships and treat people well. I am determined to adapt to situations I am uncomfortable in. I am determined to alter my mindset for whatever is most beneficial for my given situation. Thank you.
