Personal Statement

Hey, my name is Sean Kevin Torlincasi and I'm from Hicksville, New York. I play centerback, both fullback positions, and center defensive midfield. I play centerback and both fullback positions for NY Hota Bavarian SC 2006 and centerback and center defensive midfield for Hicksville High School. I have been playing soccer now for 9 years and honestly it's just something I love to do everyday. I fell in love with this sport not only because of how beautiful it is, but mainly all the connections and brothers I came out of it with. During the years of 2019 and 2020 before COVID happened, I was in a youth group for Holy Family Parish. Two of the activities that we did were selling Christmas wreaths outside Holy Family School to families you needed them and going to New York City to give baskets containing food, water, clothes, and blankets to homeless people. During the summer of 2023, I worked in a camp at Farmingdale State College called Future Stars Camp. I was a maintenance worker and cleaned up the whole campus when the camp was over. I made sure the young kids were safely operating the water slides when I was supervising them. Unfortunately, I never took an opportunity to get into a club in high school. I never really had the time after school to go because I had soccer practices 6 times a week, but I'm going to regret it once I graduate. If my freshman year wasn't a COVID year, I definitely would've joined a club that interested me.

Of course, I'm not the greatest talent or a superstar but my mentality is to always work hard and do your personal best. When playing with a high quality academy team, it is not only about you improving, it is mainly about making the entire team better. My club coach always tells us to make sure that everyone is doing their role and working hard because that is the only way the whole team can benefit. I try to be the loudest player on the field and a leader, even when I'm coming into a game as a subsitute or not the best player on the field. I just want to be involved when I'm playing and I love to take things serious even when it's the smallest things. Thinking about it now in my life, I'm really upset with myself because I never really had the hard working mentality until I became a 10th grader. I guess that what motivates me now. As a young kid, I thought I was safe and didn't need to be serious about important things like school and soccer. Taking risks will lead to growth as a human being whether the consequences are good or bad. As an individual, you can never be settled with where you are at right now because there is always room for improvement in any aspect of life.

In the second game, I came in as a subsitute when we were winning 1-0 and played the last 30 minutes of the second half as a right back. My team won 2-1 in this game. In the last game, I came in as a subsitute and played the last 20 minutes of the second half as a left back. Unfortunately my team lost 3-0 to a very athletic and tall team. We finished the weekend with one win, tie and loss.

  • This was my first ever ID camp. It was a great experience for me because it is always great to play the sport I love and to play with other guys that are just looking for the same goal as me. I didn't know anyone from the ID Camp but just speaking to new guys and playing with them just makes it easier for me when I'm playing at such a high level. My dad and I traveled 2 and a half hours upstate from Hicksville to get to New Paltz and it was totally worth it.

  • Gothia Cup
  • 7/13/23 to 7/23/23
  • It was a really great experience to play against and watch teams from 75 different countries in one place. Just speaking to new people from different cultures really opens your eyes up to experience more things.

Training

  • 1 year
  • I started training with Hota in Feburary 2022. We usually train 5 times a week during the seasons.
  • Hicksville Surge
  • 8 years
  • I have been playing with mainly the same group of kids that I grew up with in middle school and high school. Our chemistry has always been getting better and we just have fun playing.
  • Hicksville High School Mens Varsity Soccer
  • 2 years
  • Playing as a sophomore on varsity was a big step in my athletic career. Watching the older kids play and learning from them really improved my game. It changed my mindset because it made me realize that the potential was there to be better, all you had to do is work hard.
