Thomas Boggis '16 Recruiting Profile

In grade school, I set a goal to play for soccer at the collegiate level. My passion for soccer and drive to succeed have translated into a high level of commitment to develop as a player, improve my soccer skills, and become physically conditioned. I consistently play to my best abilities, leave everything on the field, and provide leadership and inspiration for my teammates both on and off the field. My speed up top and vision on the field gives me the ability to create opportunities that others could not, and my skill to use either foot equally for passing and shooting sets me apart from other recruits. However, I can bring a whole new level of play and dedication to a team. With my high school team at Westchester Country Day School, we live by three mottos that have translated to every aspect of my life and make me different from every other high school player in the country.

The first is "Strength and Honor." Not only is this our chant when we huddle up before games, but this motto drives me to give everything I have on the field, in the classroom, and in my work, not only for my benefit, but because I represent our team, and the team comes first before my own personal achievement.

The second motto is "Carpe Diem." After this was instilled in me, I daily ask myself one question: "Did I get better today?" If I can't say yes confidently, then I have failed myself and my team. This led me to perform the rigorous workout routines I undergo in the offseason and the constant drive to improve my skills and physical attributes.

The final motto I live by is "Fortitude. Strength. United." Living by this, I do not play and give so much time and effort during games for myself: to score as many goals as possible, to look good for colleges, or impress fans. I give my all fighting for my brother next to me on the field, knowing he is doing the same for me. I put the team first and the team's success over personal success because I know that a team is only at full strength when they become united and play for the people next to them and perform at their highest level to honor the team, not for themselves.

Lastly, I believe in doing my best not only on the field, but academically and personally. I am an "A" student, taking honors and AP classes, and understand how to achieve success and balance between academics and athletics. I strive to be a leader by example among my peers, working to help others and to be a positive role model in the communities in which I am involved. I believe in had work, dedication and commitment throughout my life.
