Competing to win is important to me in both select sports and rigorous, select-level academics (Cambridge University curriculum) and it is my goal is to attend a university that shares this same philosophy. To win, I know I need to do my best every time I am competing in a game or taking an exam but, I know the real way to win is the preparation before the event and this is fueled by my work ethic. I regularly put in extra time to do practice drills, sample problems and study hard to master my role. I watch post-game footage and review missed exam questions to better learn and understand how I can improve in the future. This is all part of my preparation and the balance I exhibit every day when it comes to excelling at both sports and academics.
My passion is competitive soccer. I have played on high-level select teams for eight years and, last year as a freshman, I made my JV high school team as a starter and was asked to move up to Varsity towards the end of the year. As a sophomore I was recently selected to my Varsity team, due to both my abilities and positive attitude. Over the years, the teams I have played on have made it to the state championship multiple times and it was exciting for everyone on the team. On the other hand, during this journey, we were eliminated many times as well and, in each defeat, being resilient, I picked myself up and focused on improving and strengthening the areas that I fell short. As a forward and mid-field player, I need to always be thinking about the next play and how can I do my best to create an opportunity for me or for one of my teammates. The other reason I am passionate about soccer is the team focus. I know that playing as a team is the only way we can set ourselves up to win. As a result of being team oriented, I have been selected as co-captain for multiple years. I believe the real reason for this is my ability to lead the team and my personal passion to make others great. Teamwork is another value of mine that I am looking for at the collegiate level – both in academics and in sports. I know, that when I graduate from college and enter the workforce, teamwork will be paramount to my professional success. My goal is to play soccer for a university that values and emphasizes academics in conjunction with a strong sports focus and an overall balanced, team-focused community.
