Personal Statement

Personally, my collegiate goals and aspirations include finding a fantastic school that I will enjoy in many ways such as earning my degree in and continuing my soccer career at. I wish to excel even more both in the classroom and out on the pitch.

There are multiple reasons why I am the right candidate for your college team. These reasons range from athletics, academics, and mostly character.

For me, athletics is a given. I have been playing the sport of soccer and have been excelling in it every year now for eleven years and eight of those eleven years I have been playing as a goalkeeper. Eleven years of practicing, playing, and studying the game; I have vast knowledge of it by now especially as a goalkeeper. I know the connections to make on the field. I know how to anticipate passes/through-balls/crosses/shots/counter-attacks/etc. I understand everything that happens on the pitch and have been working on anticipating everything on the pitch for years now. As a goalkeeper, I have successfully built a solid foundation of knowing how to communicate and direct the team in front of me. Throughout the years I have learned what to say in all circumstances that may occur on the pitch, whether in regular play on the pitch, counter-attacks, free kicks, corner kicks, the last 10 minutes, or even a penalty kick, I know what to order my teammates to do and how to execute doing that in a loud and commanding voice that is in the right manner. Being a goalkeeper is all about being the back-bone of the team and that is why I have learned to constantly encourage my team and boost their energies to pull though with a solid win. If a teammate makes a mistake I do not bother with it since it cannot be changed, but instead encourage him by saying multiple things to keep his spirit up. Being an overall leader of the team has been instilled in me ever since my career as a goalkeeper has started. I help my team by being an example of an extremely hard worker in practices with high intensity and a very positive attitude toward everything that comes my way. During games I know that my team feeds off of my calming and content but yet intense and driven attitude. While most of my teammates may be extremely nervous and too jacked up that they will make a mistake, I with my commanding voice give off a calming yet intense atmosphere that eases them during the game. I know it is hard to understand but trust me, I have been doing this for years now and I have seen how it works. Other than the lesser known characteristics of a goalkeeper, I have excelled greatly in the more commonly known fields of shot-stopping, distribution, and dominating the box. When it comes to shot-stopping, it is no question that it is my greatest attribute as a goalkeeper. Whether it comes down to shots outside of the eighteen, shots inside the box, one v. ones, and penalty kicks, I know where to position myself in order to cut down the shooter’s angle and to be in the greatest spot possible in order to get to the ball. Having a great hold on the ball is just another ability that I am fantastic in. Rarely do you ever see me fumble a shot or have loose control of the ball. Throughout my career I have seemed to find strength in penalty kicks due to a 5-1 pk record with Bavarians SC in 2012. When it comes to dominating and controlling my box, I am able to jump high in the air with great form and strength to secure the ball out of the air, especially in a crowd of players. Distribution is another key component in me as a goalkeeper that has been solid ever since I started. My goal-kicks are highly accurate; I am able to pinpoint where I want to place the ball, either in front of my teammate or further past him so that he may run on to it. When it comes to distributing out of the air I have been doing a side-volley for multiple years now and have found that it has been working the best for me. I have found that I am also highly excelled in distributing with my arm. I am able to throw great lengths with fantastic accuracy. I am able to provide spin to the ball to place the ball in front of my teammate when it comes to that circumstance. Along with all of this, I am extremely coachable and I believe that being coachable is one of the main reasons why I have gained all of this knowledge and ability. I work extremely well with any kind of coach along with really any kind of person such as team-mates. These athletic abilities are the reason why I am your greatest candidate for your college team.

Along with athletics, various academic success is present in me to be a great candidate for your team. Throughout my career in school, I have always gotten the compliment of how hard I work at school, whether it be my teachers, advisers, or parents. I know this is true because I literally do not give up on a tough assignment when it arises which it does all the time in high school. If it means that I will have to pass through the hours of the night and into the next day just to complete that assignment then I will do it and I have done it countless times in my life. I do not just give up on something if it is hard to finish or takes a long time, I work at it until it gets done, period. Now, throughout my schooling career the grades have not come too naturally. I clearly struggle to pull off a high gpa but that does not mean that I have ever quite trying. I do believe that I will achieve that greater accomplishment in academics. When it comes to managing my time, Marquette University High School has taught me how to do so very effectively and efficiently. What am I doing during my free periods in school while the others are hanging out in the gym? – doing assignments, working on projects and studying in the library. I am an extremely hard worker when it comes to my academics. I am also a very respectful to my teachers and peers as commonly taught.

Along with athletics and academics, my character is another quality aspect of me. Respect-respect-respect. Whether it is on the pitch, in the classroom, at the dinner table, in conversations with adults, greeting others, I have always carried out the respect that people deserve despite age, race, or class. I show this respect to everyone that I meet because I am a very non-judgmental person and that is what has gotten me many friends in my life so far. I am also a very kind and caring person. I do not cut down on people as a form of humor which unfortunately too many people do. Again, I am an extremely hard-working person who absolutely does not quit at anything. When I put my mind and body to something then I do not fail to succeed. Again, I work very well with people. Rarely do I ever make complications with people because I am so reasonable and I am just able to work with everyone in the right manner. Therefore I am a very coachable player.

If you took the time to read this statement, thank you. This is why I am the most substantial candidate for your college team.

Looking forward to communicating with you

Training

  • Goalkeeper training
  • 7 years
  • Started off goalkeeper training with going to camps such as the Milwaukee Wave camps which were coached by Nick Vorberg. I then moved on to train with other personal trainers weekly. My top personal keeper coach was Hideki Nakada (now at Stanford with the women's team). His training is top notch and i find that i evolved the most as a goalkeeper with him. I trained with Nakada for about two years, weekly during club season and in the summers (Nakada was at Marquette at this time). When Nakada left to go to Orgeon, i then started training with Camp Shutout coaches such as Stan Anderson, Chris Dadian, Jack Gieche, and Eric Wiberg. Along with this i went to my first PAWS ID camp specifically for goalkeepers to train with many keeper coaches including Douglas Cardosi and again Stan Anderson. When i joined Bavarian soccer club i started to train with Jon Mroz who provides intense fundamental training and overall high quality training session. Then in high school i began to work with our previous goalkeeper coach Will Lephey. When Lephy left Marquette High School, Bryce Boyd joined as goalkeeper coach who i then trained with as well. When i would go to Marquette University's ID camps i would do training with coach Nick Vorberg.
