I have been swimming competitively since I was twelve years old. During Freshman year, I decided that I wanted to swim at the collegiate level. I know from both my grandfather and mother who both swam at the D-1 collegiate level, that this opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
This is an opportunity that would change the direction of my life. I have strong technical swimming skills and as I continue to physically grow these skills are the difference that is making the difference in my times and performance, as evidenced by qualifying for 2023 junior nationals with a 200 back SCY time of 1.48.21. On both my club team and high school team I am considered a leader; I lead by example and positively encouraging my teammates both in and out of the pool - we are in this together.
My mom has been my club coach since from the beginning and instilled in me at an early age the value of listening and learning from good coaching. As a leader of my high school swim team I work to support and help my coach by leading practices and coaching other teammates to success. I strive to be one of the hardest working members of both my club and high school teams.
As I am preparing for college I continue to work hard year-round on improving my personal times and have taken to the weight room in pursuit of this goal. With the experience of junior nationals under my belt I am more focused than ever to achieve my dream of being in a college program with excellent coaching where I can learn, grow, and represent the school both academically and athletically at NCAA’s and Senior nationals/Olympic trials.
I know it is equally important to be a well-rounded student and visualize having a similar college experience by successfully completing a degree in math/science while I contribute to the swim program.
I am proud that this year I carry a 4.5 GPA,while taking advanced placement classes in Math, Science, World History, ELA, and Computer Science. I have been inducted into both the National Honor Society and soon to be an Academic All-American. Outside of school, I am a member of the Young Men’s Service League and a former qualifier of Dawson Summer Initiative Leadership program.
I want to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom and in the pool. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match at the highest level of competition possible. I hope to become a role model to my peers, in my community, make my family proud and contribute during my college years.
