Personal Statement
I am Tariq Qazi, a lifelong swimmer, who has conquered challenges beyond boundaries. My swimming journey started when I was just three years old, and for the past ten years, I have been a member of the same club, relentlessly pushing my limits.
As I progressed in my swimming career, I did not settle for mediocrity. Instead, I kept extending the distance of my favorite events, from 200m freestyle in elementary school to the 1500m and open water events in middle school.
But my passion for open water swimming has exceeded all other forms of swimming. I proved my mettle when I swam the treacherous Tsugaru Strait in Japan to raise 1.5 million yen for children in the hospital. Swimming across one of the world's most challenging waterways that featured freezing temperatures and fierce currents required grit, determination, and resilience.
With the unwavering support of my family and well-wishers, I accomplished the feat of swimming 40.1km in 11 hours and 20 minutes, making me the youngest person ever to cross the Tsugaru Strait. My journey to the top has been paved with dedication, perseverance, and self-belief.
