Personal Statement

To be honest, I never thought swimming was the sport I would choose.

Before this I was always a runner. I ran freshman and sophomore year. Track and cross country

were the only things I did. When I found swimming, a  passion for something new

was created. I immediately fell in love with the sport and that summer decided to

join a club and go as far as I possibly could. My passion for the sport has only grown

since first starting. How far can I go? Only college swimming would show that.

Coaches look for good assets. Athletes that bring something

that would benefit their team. Be it times or just dedication. Now why would I be a good

choice? Well for starters I think there is still potential

to be brought out. I have been swimming for only two years. I started

swimming my sophomore year and with only one summer of club

I made it to state on two relays(400 free and 200 free). Club was a major

step up from highschool. College is an even bigger jump. If I

could be coached by someone from the collegiate level, I know improving

would not be a problem at all. I just need that expertise.

The type of college that best fits me isreally an open book at this point. Location wise I am

very open. I don't mind a long trek as long as its not

across the country. Nearby would be optimal but I am

open to adjusting. Divisions is quite clear. I know

that the best would be division 2 or NAIA. Division 2

being the best possibility out for those two. Now for

the most important part, field of study. The deciding

factor for most college choices. A college with a good

engineering program would immediately catch my eye and

draw me in. If I had to choose between two and one had

a good engineering program and the other didn't, the

choice would be easy. Other than that, I would love something that

made me feel at home. If someone enjoys something, it makes

it easier to excel.
